Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

{Beauty} Best Foundations

It’s been a minute since I last shared a beauty post, my blog is slowly drifting into travel and Fashion direction and though I am happy about it I don’t want to continue neglecting the beauty side to this blog. To help me revitalise the beauty side of the blog I am sharing the findings from the research done by review.com on the best foundations around.

Reviews.com Searched for the Best Foundation; Here’s What They Found

Best Foundations

Trying to find a foundation ideal for your skin isn’t an easy task, especially when every product claims to be “a perfect match.” The team at Reviews.com set out on a quest to find the absolute best all-around foundation available. In doing so, they had a number of criteria in mind that a foundation would have to meet.

First, they removed any foundations that contained potentially harmful or controversial ingredients. They eliminated any foundations that had ingredients that clogged pores, increased the risk of sun damage or increased the risk of skin irritation. Some of the ingredients on their no-no list included formaldehyde releasers, sodium lauryl sulfate, mineral oil, chemical sunscreens, and retinoids.

Then they eliminated any foundation that had fewer than 12 shades. This turned out to be the biggest challenge for the reviewers, as the average number of shades among all foundation lines was eight! A wider variety of skin tone colors in foundations is necessary because women of color are being underrepresented in the beauty industry.

Next, any foundations with less than a minimum four star rating on the popular websites like Amazon, Sephora, Nordstrom and Ulta were removed. While admitting that reviews can be somewhat tricky and unreliable, they did this in order to find the foundations that actually worked for consumers.

Out of 364 formulas, these three criteria narrowed the field to 63 foundations. Here’s where the real hands-on testing began. First relying upon experts including cosmetic chemists, makeup artists, and the CEO of Focal Point Research, Rob Ross-Fichtner, and scouring user comments and YouTube for tips, they chose their final foundation selections after trying out each formula themselves. They found their perfect shades then wore the foundations while going about their normal, busy lives, in some cases even trying out one formula on one half of the face, with another formula on the other half! All of this research led them to these two top picks and several honorable mentions.

Best Sheer to Medium Coverage

MAC Studio Face and Body Foundation

Reviewers praised its consistency and refreshing feel on the face. They also liked its natural look. They recommend this shade for those looking for sheer coverage who also have naturally good skin.

Best Medium to Full Coverage

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup

The reviewers liked this buildable foundation for its staying power and coverage. It was also deemed to be long-lasting as the authors confirmed that the “15 hours of wear” touted by Estee Lauder’s advertising held up under their testing.

Best Foundations

Check out the honorable mentions included in their review: http://www.reviews.com/foundation/

What do you think of these findings? Do you agree with the best foundations the research concluded on? I do love both of these brands MAC more so than Estee Launder and they have both served me well in the past. For me these two foundations are the best foundations around. Do you agree?

I’m a massive fan of MAC Face & Body Foundation, it gives great coverage but still lets your natural skin shine through. x

I agree that brands need to have more foundations to represent all shades, I can never find one that actually matches my exact skin colour. I like Estee Lauder.

I have never owned a MAC foundation but have been to the counters and trialled it a few times and I love how it looks and feels. My favourite right now is No7 from Boots, they do a colour match so I don’t end up looking orange or too pale

I am still yet to try the MAC foundations however I did try Double Wear and it did not suit my skin. There is another DW that I could try, think it’s like a lighter version or something.

I have only worn foundation a handful of times, when applied by a beautician. This is mainly because I can never find a shade that suits my complexion.
