Travel together with me and fall in love with these beautiful German cities, that have made me love Germany even more. Germany is a country after my own heart that I first fell in love with over 10 years ago when I first visited Düsseldorf. Germany is the most populous country in the EU, a country with a strong economy and is one that is led by a chancellor and instead of a president. Germany is flocked by tourists year in and out and it was easy for me to fall in love with these beautiful German cities.

With the current state of affairs (sister Rona), I thought it would be cool to invite you to travel with me to Germany (virtually speaking) and allow you also to fall in love with these beautiful German cities. I want to share a little something about all the cities I have visited so far in Deutschland and I hope this will tempt you enough to visit some of these places in the near future.

Fall in Love with these Beautiful German Cities

Germany is home to 16 states of which I have visited at least 3 city-states (Bremen, Hamburg and Berlin) and a few area sates were you can find Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Mainz. I have travelled across Germany more times than I care to remember and still haven’t even covered half of it.

The federal republic of Germany as its officially known is located in North Central Europe and is a country known for its impressive landscapes. Tall mountains to the South, plain hills to the North, forested hills to the west and agricultural lands to the east.

Beautiful German Cities: Berlin

Berlin is the largest city in Germany and the country’s capital, a city known for the Berlin War, the Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial and much more. The city of Berlin dates back to the 13th century, a city divided by the cold war and in no small part thanks to Hitler. Every visit I have made to the German capital has enlightened me and I feel like I need more time with each visit. For budget travellers like myself, the city can be quite expensive in terms of accommodation but hostels are always a great option.

Recommendations: Take a free walking tour around to get a real sense of the city. I shared a 24-hour guide to the city and included must-see places.

Beautiful German Cities: Bremen

Bremen is a small Hanseatic and historical city located in the North West region of Germany. Since 1358, the city of Bremen has been a member of the Hanseatic League and still is today. The city has over 600 years of world heritage and its home of the first fully functional helicopter. I have visited the city more times than I care to remember and I am still in love with it today. It is a small city but packs a punch and it will surprise you in what you shall find.

Recommendations: Bremen Markplatz is the best place to start exploring the city, the airport is only 15-minutes away.

Beautiful German Cities: Cologne

Cologne is the fourth largest metropolitan city in Germany after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich and was founded in 1AD. The city is famous for the incredible Cathedral, locally is called Koln Dom. Cologne is located on both sides of the Rhine River and snuggled in the western peripheries of Germany. I visited Cologne at the height of summer and had the best time ever and would highly recommend visiting then.

Recommendations: Cologne is such a great city, you can enjoy the sunshine on a side of the Rhine river or visiting the magnificent Koln Dom.

Beautiful German Cities: Düsseldorf 

Dusseldorf is the seventh-largest city in Germany and operates the third busiest international airport in the county. The city is located in the western region of the country and over the last century has grown into a cultural hub. Dusseldorf is a city split by the Rhine river, the old town on one side and the commercial side on another. For those short on time but still want to explore the city, in this post we share reasons to visit Dusseldorf.

Beautiful German Cities: Frankfurt

Frankfurt is the fifth-largest city in Germany and is the financial capital of not only Germany but for Europe too with over 450 banking institutions. The city of Frankfurt is situated in the centre of Germany and is home to both old towns and new towns. I remember visiting Frankfurt and thinking ‘I have never seen so many banks in any city before’, everywhere I went every corner I turned I saw a banking institution of the sort.

Beautiful German Cities: Hamburg

Hamburg is the second-largest city after Berlin, the 7th largest city in the EU and the 3rd largest port city in Europe. The Hanseatic City of Hamburg is home to about 2,500 bridges (the highest number of bridges in Europe) that cross the rivers and canals within the city.

Beautiful German Cities: Mainz

Mainz is a wine capital of Germany and it’s a city famous for inventing the movable type printing press. Until a couple of days ago I did not even know such a city even existed. The power of travelling and exploring is truly amazing, every day I discover something new. 

Mainz is a city lying on the west bank of River Rhine, formerly a fort for the Roman empire in the German region. Today it is a city known for its incredible university, inventing pressing and wine city. A city that is easily accessible from Frankfurt Am Main {by train or bus} and even Frankfurt Hahn {by bus}.

Germany is one of those countries were you simply have no choice but to enjoy your visit, every city has its own history, charm and beauty.
