Learning how to clean artificial grass couldn’t have been more timely as I just had my small garden transformed completely in readiness for BBQ season. I am someone who has always appreciated a nicely kept garden but I know I don’t have the time nor patience for normal grass, the rate at which mine together with the weeds grew truly annoyed me. I decided to have the entire landscape of my small garden redone and replaced with decking and artificial grass because it is easy to manage and looks great year round. If you are on the fence about whether to install artificial grass or not then let me be your deciding voice – do it.
When I purchased my home last year, one thing I quickly noticed about my new garden was how quickly the weeds grew and how tough the ground in my garden was. For many months I struggled with maintaining the garden until I finally made the decision to revamp the entire space to something that I would love, is easy maintenance and looks great all year round. I am excited to share tips on how to clean artificial grass as these tips are the ones I will be implementing myself as someone new to managing artificial grass turf. I would love to hear from you in the comments section if you have artificial grass and how you keep it clean year round.

How to Clean Artificial Grass
Ever since I became a homeowner, there are so many things I realised I am responsible for and either have to do myself or need to hire someone. I am not blessed with the skills to DIY when it comes to outdoor living space or big home projects and often prefer to hire a professional than attempt it myself. If, like me, you love the look of real and lush green grass but don’t have the time to maintain it, then artificial grass is your new best friend. It is a great thing to invest in rather than real grass, because it is very low maintenance. I am all about investing in this that will last me a long time and the low maintenance nature of artificial grass made it even more appealing.
If you are still struggling with the idea then think of it this way, no more paying the gardener to maintain your garden or purchasing a lawnmower every couple of years. During the warmer months it seems every type of weed that can grow on your turf will find its way there and there is never enough time to do the entire garden. I personally got tired of paying so much money to have the grass cut only for it to grow back faster and stronger the new few weeks. This is why I decided to change over to artificial glad and in this post I share tips on how to clean your artificial grass.
1. Remove The Obvious Dirt
A great thing about artificial grass is that it’s very low maintenance when it comes to cleaning out dirt and debris. It does not need to be looked after a lot and it doesn’t need to be watered either. There is no problem with weeds, insects and pests, because artificial grass is not a living being. All you really need to look for is obvious dirt and pieces of debris which can be easily swept away. You should look out for small rocks, dirt and other small objects which can get hidden in your turf and just remove it to make the grass look cleaner.

2. Clean With A Simple Soap Solution
For simple cleaning, you really don’t need a lot. Artificial turfs can be cleaned once a week or more, depending on how dirty it might get. If you have pets then it becomes necessary to clean the turf every day because pets can cause a lot of mess. Luckily, for artificial grass, there is no such specific way to clean. All you really need is some soap and water and a sponge or a grass cleaning brush. If you clean the turf every day, then it will look cleaner for longer.
3. How To Clean Stains?
If you have pets or if something drops on your turf and leaves an obvious stain, then you don’t need to worry at all. To clean the stain, you can try to use the soap and water solution which was mentioned previously, and if that doesn’t work, then you can use a stronger cleaning agent like foam-based cleaners or cleaners which can remove oil and pet stains.
4. Brush The Grass Regularly
Another great tip to keep your artificial turf tidy and neat all day is to brush the grass. There are grass brushes available in the market, which you can use to run through the strands of grass. This will help to get rid of any sort of dirt or debris and it will also make the turf look cleaner and shinier. This is also known as dry brushing the turf and this is quite common to help fluff up the turf and get rid of small specs of dust.
There you have it! Cleaning artificial grass has never sounded so easy. It is a lot less work than real grass and you will still get the lush green look and appeal of real grass.
I am so in love with my new garden, the artificial grass just makes it look for perfect and summer ready. One thing I do need to work on is deciding if I want to plant veggies or flowers but either way I am excited to start using my garden more often moving forward. Do you have artificial grass in your garden?

This is actually super useful. I have normal grass in my front in backyard, but I do have a couple of areas where I added artificial grass where my seating areas are. Now I have a better idea to clean it, Thanks!

I love the idea of artificial grass. The heat in Florida can deter people from taking care of their lawns so this is actually so useful and it looks great.

I didn’t realize that it was so easy to clean artificial grass. We do have landscaping grass in the garden so we just water them regularly.
