Small Garden Landscape Ideas for new Homeowners

Since becoming a homeowner last year, I have had plenty of ideas about both my home and garden. Lately, I have been researching small garden landscape ideas for new homeowners because I want to make full use of my small garden this year. We don’t know yet if most of the restrictions will be lifted but I am sure most of us will want to make sure we can make full use of our *luxury rattan furniture. If like me you have a small garden and have been pinning every single idea you can find then this post is for you.

With Spring only a few short weeks away, I have been receiving landscaping quotes because I am ready to transform my small garden. We have been cooped up inside for too long and even with these ideas cabin fever has been setting in and I need more vitamin D. This is why I am excited about planning out the landscape of my ‘in the near’ future garden and making sure its something that I can accomplish with the help of the landscapers. Obviously this will cost money which I am glad I have saved up for because I want to make my long term dream a reality.

Small Garden Landscape Ideas for new Homeowners

As a first-time homeowner, I have been overly excited at reviewing small garden landscape ideas for new homeowners. Before I even bought my home, I had ideas of what I wanted my home and garden to look like. Whilst my home is still (only slightly) a work in progress (nothing a new lick of paint can’t fix), the garden needs more work than I can take on. This is why I am looking to hire professionals who will be able to transform my dream into a reality and turn my garden into a place I will be proud of.

 With Spring around the corner I am ready for warmer days and BBQs with friends and family. Last week we managed to enjoy a few days in the garden gathering as a group of 6 but making the garden look slightly presentable cost me a whole £50 just to cut a small patch of grass, this is why one of my hopes is to get rid of the grass and maybe opt for artificial grass. When it comes to working in the garden, unless it’s a vegetable patch, I prefer low maintenance as in ‘once every six months’ type of low maintenance.

So, some of the ideas that I have been playing around with are as follows:

Artificial Grass

Whilst I love real grass and find it absolutely pleasing to see freshly cut lawn all nicely tidied up and looking presentable, I don’t like mowing the lawn or reprising my always dormant hay fever. My current lawn even after being cut is not aesthetically pleasing because the damn weeds are more dominant than my actual grass. It costs a lot of money to just cut that grass and de-root the weeds but somehow they seem to regrow stronger and fiercer. So, I am thinking for the landscaping upgrade, it would be nice to get rid of the grass and install fake grass.

Raised Flower Beds

Because my garden is so small and I don’t have enough space to create my small veggie patch, I thought raised flower beds will be a good solution. I am not as great at growing veggies as my mother but I am willing to give it a try since over the last 12 months I have managed to keep all my indoor flowers alive and I am ready to conquer the world. Raised flower beds are not only cute but they will give my garden a feel of looking bigger than it really is. I am looking forward to planting my favourite veggies especially tomatoes as this is something my mother grows/grew when we were all still at home.

Decking

The current decking situation has been giving me anxiety for the last 11 months, the weeds have been growing through it relentlessly and no amount of cleaning is changing anything. I am looking forward to upgrading my decking, whilst I still want to keep the limestones paving I would like for it to be revamped to give it a new breath of life and save me from all the many bugs that just keep appearing from nowhere. I want to continue having an area where I can relax in the morning with a nice cuppa or sit at during the day as I continue to work from home.

Revamping the Shade

When I bought the house last year, I both liked and disliked the idea of having a shed in my yard. The like part is that it gave me extra storage space which I did not know I would need until I start decorating my home and I need somewhere to store all the boxes. The dislike part is that because I have a shed it eats away at the size of my garden making it even smaller than it truly is. Right now the shed looks like its on its last legs and could do with a nice revamp.

Outdoor Furniture 

Last year in hopes of enjoying the good weather we had during lockdown, I bought last minute outdoor seat which wasn’t the best but wasn’t bad either. I am excited to buy something that I can actually use when I have friends come over and it will still look presentable and is long lasting. The current wooden seat I purchased from WayFair is still in good shape so I am looking for an addition to it, a table and some cushions.

Having a small garden doesn’t mean I am limited at what I can do with it but gets my creative juices flowing and I hope these small garden landscape ideas for new homeowners will aid fellow homeowners looking to revamp their small garden soon. I still have so many ideas that I am exploring to add to my garden but the ‘other ideas’ do not require a landscaper just my imagination and wallet.
