How to Create Hygge in the Bathroom

Sponsored

Hygge is centred around warmth and cosiness so how does one create Hygge in the bathroom? A lot of us are spending a lot of time indoors and it makes sense to update your home to make it more cosy and warm especially as winter soldiers on fiercely. As much as I appreciate winter, it can be such tough couple of months coping with short and dark days but I am working through it by incorporating hygge into all areas of my home.

Before I bought my house, one of the biggest wishes I had was to curate a type of bathroom that I would absolutely love and this includes installing *Insignia Steam Showers in my ensuite bathroom. In my main bathroom, I have been able to create a space that exudes hygge and its one of my favourite rooms in my home. As someone who works from home and spends a lot of time at home, I made a point of incorporating hygge around my home.

HOW TO CREATE HYGGE IN THE BATHROOM

How to Create Hygge in the Bathroom

When the great phenomenal that is Hygge hit the streets it was all the buzz and I think because gravitated towards this trend because (1) the Danes are one of the happiest people in the world and (2) what Hygge stands for resonated with a lot of people. I mean, who wouldn’t want cosiness and warmth in their lives, appreciating the small things in life and focusing on contentment and overall well-being?

Although we don’t spend as much time the bathroom as we do in the kitchen, it made me think about the days when I am practicing self-care by running a bath and lighting candles in my bathroom. I thought as simple as that it, it’s how one can create Hygge in the bathroom, it doesn’t have to take much or cost a lot of money to create a feeling of contentment. Since we are spending a lot of time indoors, here is how I am copying.

Less is More

In most homes, bathrooms are often the smallest rooms and we often find ourselves struggling with space. There are many ways once can create more space in a small bathroom but I believe in less is more. The main bathroom in my home had under sink storage and one bathroom storage stand which locks everything away and out of sight. I have a beautiful woven basket which keeps all my self-care products including candles and I love that it matches the decor which is clutter free and neat.

I don’t know about your bathroom but all the three bathroom’s in my home all have a colour scheme. The main bathroom is light grey with mustard accent and the walls are creamed coloured. I think to create a feeling of cosiness in your bathroom it should be more light than dark with accents of your choice. The ensuite is pink coloured because paired with grey accents because I do love grey and the downstairs is light purpose against white walls and it works.

Lighting (dimmed or candles)

One thing I realised a long time ago is my obsession with lighting, I find that if I am able to dim the lights I am much happier. Although I don’t have light sensitivity I have dimmed all the devices to low lighting and when I am relaxing in the tub I am able to switch of the lights in my bathroom and light the candles instead which create a great ambiance and a feeling of cosiness as I unwind in my favourite bubble bath.

If you are able to dim the lights that’s great but if not then use as many candles as its safe to do so to give you that cosy + romantic feel. Obviously, it is important to ensure as you unwind you won’t knock over the candles that could lead to fire if you fell asleep so keep them away from the tub and in a safe place. Electric candles could also be an alternative for those who fall asleep easily when unwinding in the tub.

Add Greenery

Another thing you can do to incorporate Hygge into your bathroom is by adding some plants, those that love humidity and low lighting. I don’t know about your bathroom but mine doesn’t get much light on any given day so the plants in my bathroom are those that are happy with little to no sun. I have Aloe Vera plants because they like humidity and they purify my the air.

CREATE HYGGE IN THE BATHROOM

Grab a nice book

To create Hygge in the bathroom you make is cosy so that when you use it, it will continue to exude warmth and cosiness. I love whenever I am taking a bath I have a nice book in the tub, I have shared some of my favourite international best sellers and which is a collection of personal growth books and money management both of which I absolutely love and recommend.

Incorporate natural materials and colour

One of the best features of my bathroom is the wooden panel as well as the wooden rack I use when I am relaxing in the bathroom. On days when I don’t wish to read but watch something on my tablet, I am able to hang it over the rack and add a couple of candles plus a nice drink and it just makes it so cute and cosy. I also have wood-effect flooring which gives it that simplistic natural look and best part – it is easy to clean.

Every day I am excited to take a long soak in the bath after a long day seating in front of the computer stuck indoors and being blasted by the radiators. Having an area in my home outside of the living room and the bedroom where I can totally relax is such an incredible feeling. I am hoping to incorporate Hygge all across my home and this is good my mental wellbeing.

Do you practice Hygge in your home?

I love the concept behind Hygge. It is nice to have a strategy for the bathroom. Definitely something that I have overlooked when it comes to Hygge.

Great advice. When it comes to Hygge we often forget about the bathroom and focus on living areas.

I don’t practice hygge. I do have a small bathroom and agree that a basket does help manage to contain smaller items. i do think hygge would be nice in a den if I had one.

I love this idea. We have a new bathroom in our attic but sadly we don’t have much room in there because we went for a big shower. But I did our downstairs toilet last year and I love the Hygge feel in there. It is minimal but includes most of your suggestions x x

I like this idea of making the bathroom a sanctuary type place. I took those ideas into account when I had my bathroom redone recently.

The bathrooms are the most important spaces after the kitchen and key when selling a house. I know redoing the bathrooms was a must in my house about 13 years ago and is still the best thing we ever did.
