As the uncertainty of when we can travel again continues, I am forced to change my plans and focus on how to save money for the next cityscape so that once travel resumes, I will be ready both mentally and financially. I am a spontaneous traveller but I also like being prepared for all eventualities when it comes to money. The last thing anyone wants is to fall ill abroad in the current climate, I prefer to be prepared than to be found lacking, this is why I am also an advocate of buying travel insurance for every single trip.
As a frequent traveller, I am often asked for tips on how to save money for the next cityscape, longer vacation and even staycations? Since I used to travel every.single.month, it might seem like I swim in money (well), but actually, I am smart with my money and spend it wisely and look for ways to even make more money. This year has been a tough year financially for many from job losses to lack of clients for the self-employed, but I have found simple ways to save the little that we have for future travels.

How to Save Money for your Next Cityscape
At the beginning of the year, we all make plans on where we want to go, things to accomplish and targets to be reached. This year, I had made a lot of plans to explore more cities within the UK but I am often found asking ‘why is the UK so expensive‘? This is one of the main reasons why I thought I share tips on how to save money for the next cityscape. The tips shared are those that I utilise personally every single money and definitely work for a frequent traveller like myself.
Travel is something every traveller is looking forward to being resumed to previous scheduling but for now, we all have to be patient. Just because we have to be patient doesn’t mean we can’t dream of future cityscapes or even budget for them. I hope to share tips on how to save money for the next cityscape so you can ensure you are ready for whenever are allowed to travel again. When it comes to travel especially spontaneous trips, I like to ensure I have the money for it and can travel anywhere I want at the drop of a hat.

Use Money Saving Apps
Money doesn’t fall from trees was the mantra my mother sung when I asked for something unreasonable and she would say if you want money, work for it. So, as soon as I was old enough to work, I started working and learned money truly doesn’t fall from trees. Over the years, I have learned ways to make money work for me in the long term and it starts with living below my budget and saving the coins instead of splurging. So whenever someone asks me for tips on how to save money for your next cityscape, I say work for it and save for it, simples.
But if you are looking for tips you can actually implement then I recommend finding money-saving apps that are connected to your main bank account and will help you save. I personally use Plum, it runs an algorithm that monitors my spending and decides how much I should be saving, daily, weekly, monthly and this money is stored outside of my account, out of sight but can be retrieved easily if need. In the first 30-days, I saved £500 by rounding off my expenditures and giving me prompts on how much I can save daily. I use the pro version of the app and I also use the ‘investing’ part of the app as well.

Weekly Budgeting and Saving
I am a budgeter and spender by nature, I am a walking contradiction, to put it mildly. Budgeting is something I got into when I started working on paying off my debt many moons ago (I paid off £11K debt in 11 months) thanks to budgeting my money. I am a big advocate for budgeting ( and saving), I think it is one of the basics money management tips people often overlook when it comes to personal finances. If you want to save money, you need to know how much you make and where it’s going and where you can cut back on.
When it comes to saving money, this did not come easy because every single week I would use up whatever I saved the previous week. If you have long term goals then my approach wouldn’t really work for you as they didn’t for me so I changed my thinking about money and saving. Every single month I have a target/goal on how much I want to save and what I want to use the money for. Every week I write down my budget, review planned expenditures and then decide how much I want to save and where I can cut back.
Blog Passive Income
As a blogger, I am fortunate to be able to earn passive income from the blog that is not allocated for bills but rather for spending on whatever I wish. I often refer to the blog income as my travel fund as 50% of the income from the blog goes to sponsoring my travels near and far. When I started blogging seven years ago, I did not think one day I would be earning money from sharing something that I love with the world.
Saving money from the blog might not be something everyone can do and even if you started a blog today it is not guaranteed that you will earn money tomorrow. It takes time, money (yes) and effort to be able to monetise your blog and start earning something (worthwhile). So, if you don’t have a blog and are still wanting to learn how to make money online, there are many ways one can earn money online without a blog.
Make Sacrifices
This always brings me back to when I was young and being taught about making sacrifices so you can enjoy the fruits of your labour in the future. As a young person, this made no sense to me as I wanted to spend my money there and then (or watch that cartoon) but later I understood the importance of making sacrifices. As an adult, I know I love going out for meals with my friends sometimes 3-4 times a week and its great but not always on the bank account, so I often reduce these to 1-2 visits a week and the rest we cook at each others home (obviously not now).
There are times in life when you need to make certain sacrifices, they might not be what you want to do but think of your end goal. I know I don’t need another soft cashmere cardigan from Zara, I have enough and I can repurpose them and style them in as many styles as I choose. Of late I have had to remind myself that I don’t need another four bottles of my favourite Moscato from the Gallo family because its on sale in Sainsbury’s. Often I think it’s all about being strict with yourself and practical as well, use what you already have and save the coins for the future endeavours.

Investments
Obviously, I am not saying raid your investments so you can go on the next cityscape but rather that its an option for that once in a lifetime trip. I have been investing in various products for many years now so if and when I need to sale a few for a greater cause, I do but only those that I know have vested over many years and I have accumulated a great profit. If you are looking at long term saving then I definitely recommend investing in various companies like big tech or big Pharma companies.
I am not an expert investor or broker so I am ending here with my two cents on investments.
So, these are my few tips on how to save money for the next cityscape. I am someone who believes in living below your means (I don’t mean living poorly), spending money on important things, treat yourself but never live above your means, that’s asking for debt that will take you years to repay and cause you to stress in the process. How do you budget for your future trips?

I’m hoping that I could go on a mini vacation with my son this summer. I’d really love to take him to do something fun. It’s been a long time since I’ve been on vacation. I’m even up for a staycation too. I know he would love that too.

Budgeting is so important to ensure you’re putting enough money aside to be able to travel, but you’re right about sacrifices. There may be things which aren’t as important to you as travel so you’re willing to stop spending on them x

We’re currently unable to budget for travel, there’s not enough income and I don’t feel it will be safe for family travel for a while. When we did take the few trips we did in the past we kept things low budget and put a little aside when we could.
