Everyone grows old whether you like or not and it’s not a bad thing, it is important to learn how to stay healthy as you age and you will find growing old is not so bad. When I was younger, I couldn’t wait to be 18 because then I would be considered an adult and I could make adult decisions – this came about when my parents would correct my path. Most youngsters want to be older and most older people which they had done things differently when they were younger – its the circle of life.
As you get older it becomes more important to maintain good health and this is why I wanted to share some tips on how to stay healthy as you age. With age, your mind and body are prone to some wear and tear, this is unavoidable but doesn’t mean we have to roll with the punches. It is important to minimize the potential damage by ensuring you are practising simple healthy habits throughout your life. The healthy habits you develop in your younger years will serve you well in your prime years.

How To Stay Healthy as You Age
With age comes a certain appreciation for certain things in life, like I don’t skimp on my annual health checks because I know they are important and thankfully for me my work covers my healthcare costs. When you are young, you mostly thinking about living your best life and often neglect the things that will help you to live the best life – like taking care of your body – your overall health.
I don’t claim to know everything nor am even old enough to be considered ‘an older person’ but I know that in my 30+ years on planet earth – your health is your most important asset. As soon as I turned 30yo everything hurt more, hangovers took longer to recover from and I ache everywhere when I attempt any strenuous adventures. This is why I wanted to share a post on how to stay healthy as you age, some of these tips you might already be practising and others you might not be.

Think, Learn, Create
Good health starts in the brain. Stimulate your brain with mental exercises and by engaging in creative activities. Picking up a new hobby is an excellent way to maintain better health as you age. You could try many activities like painting, writing or reading, personally, I love to write (hello blogger) and reading is something I have loved since my younger years.
Reading is a great exercise for the mind. You can read in the comfort of your own home or take a book with you while you travel. Reading keeps the brain engaged and encourages healthy brain development. It can also help reduce stress, improve recollection, facilitate a good night’s sleep and minimize potential memory loss due to aging. You might also consider taking a memory enhancer supplement if cognitive functions are of particular concern to you.

Try New Foods
As you get older your body will continue to change. To ensure you are still getting the proper nutrients you may have to make some adjustments to your diet along the way. Getting older could make it harder to absorb nutrients in general which is why vitamins and supplements are popular. Supplements are an excellent way to fill any nutritional gaps in your diet. Adding a consistent set of vitamins approved by your doctor could be a great addition to your morning routine.
You might even consider eating new foods or trying a healthy meal delivery service. Ordering a meal service takes the hassle of cooking out of the equation for you. Cooking and cleaning up an entire dinner’s worth of dishes could become exhausting and more dangerous as you age. Adjusting your diet will not only create a more enjoyable mealtime but also help you stay safe in the kitchen. There are plenty of great options out there so be sure to read reviews for Home Chef and other similar meal prep delivery services to find one that fits your taste and budget.

Stay Active
Your body can make the most of your food and digest nutrients properly when you are staying active and exercising. This becomes especially important as you get older. Staying active can help naturally strengthen your muscles and bones as they become weaker over the years. While you might not be able to do every activity you could when you were younger, you can certainly find plenty of fun ways to stay active.
Today, it is as easy as following a yoga video online. You can find custom-tailored videos to break down any fitness moves for any skill level. Learn new yoga positions or try a new routine. You might also enjoy taking a walk. It’s great to get outdoors, connect with nature and absorb some sunlight. Getting some fresh air can create an incredible change in your overall mood.
The important thing to remember as you age is to keep adapting and finding your new normal. Don’t be afraid to try new things and embrace these changes. You can keep up your spirit and maintain optimal health at any age. Simply apply these healthy habits to your life and feel confident in your health as you age.
