Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

5 Items every Man should have in their Wardrobe

With summer fast approaching, it’s time to start thinking about essential items every man should have in their wardrobe especially since I already shared the essential items every woman should have in their closet. Whilst I wouldn’t consider myself the ‘all knowing’ when it comes to men’s fashion, I have been told I have a great eye for detail and I think every woman does. I know exactly what I think looks good on a man and I use that when curating men’s fashion capsules. When it comes to seasonal pieces for women, I know exactly what to pick and know how it will look but for men more often than not its gamble as it doesn’t just need to look good, they need to be comfortable in that outfit.

You may think that putting together your summer looks will take a lot of effort, but the truth is that you only need a few reliable basics to act as your foundation pieces. You also don’t need to burn a hole in your wallet just to add them to your wardrobe, because these affordable classics are an investment that can be used year after year. The items every man should have in their wardrobe are those that can be used regardless of the season and can be paired with a lot of other pieces. This is the reason why we consider them to be an investment because you won’t need to replace them frequently and are cost effective.

5 Items Every Man Should Have In Their Wardrobe

Summer is fast approaching, and as such, you’ll want to start planning your everyday outfits for the hotter months. After all, you’ll want to look and feel your best regardless of the season. But how do you come up with stylish ensembles suitable for all sorts of occasions during this time of the year?

Indeed, all you need are a few key pieces that you can mix and match to create a variety of fun and exciting summer looks. As long as you stick to these must-haves, you’ll never go wrong. With that in mind, here are some summer fashion staples that every man should have in his closet:

Fun, Casual Socks

When wearing closed shoes during the summer, it’s a good idea to put on some comfy socks as well. The right pair of men’s casual socks can effectively absorb sweat, keeping your feet dry while also preventing foot odor.

As a bonus, colorful casual socks are a great conversation starter. They often come in a variety of designs that will surely fit any occasion or situation. You can go with low-cut socks to keep your look streamlined or you can pick lengthier styles to show off more of your socks’ design.

A Crisp White Linen Shirt

Nothing spells summer like a fresh white button-down shirt—all the more if it is made of a fabric like linen. This soft and sheer fabric dries more quickly than ordinary cotton, which means you won’t have to suffer through the summer heat drenched in sweat. Its tendency to wrinkle only adds more character and panache to your overall look, so don’t obsess over keeping your linen shirt perfect!

Can’t decide if you should go for short or long sleeves? In most cases, you can’t go wrong with a long-sleeve shirt. This is because it’s versatile enough to wear all day or all night. If you want to pull off a short-sleeve look, you can just roll up the long sleeves to add some flair to your style.

As for collars, you can go with either the traditional pointed collar or a more relaxed band collar. That being said, you may find that the latter feels more comfortable and breathable, especially in hot weather.

A White Cotton T-shirt

During the summer, wearing a plain white cotton T-shirt under your linen shirt can help to absorb sweat and keep your linen shirt from looking soaked. Additionally, wearing both a linen shirt and a cotton shirt is a fantastic way to layer your outfits. Whenever the temperature rises, you can simply take off your button-down shirt and still maintain your polished and presentable look.

How do you pick the perfect cotton T-shirt, given all of the different options available to you? Generally speaking, you should choose shirts that fit just right and flatter your silhouette. Though you may be tempted to splurge on an expensive designer brand, you’ll find that many reasonably priced options work just as well as their more expensive counterparts. You might also want to go with a shirt made out of a cotton fabric that has some stretch to it. This will allow for more freedom of movement whenever you’re enjoying sporty activities.

A Perfect Pair of Chino Shorts

Resist the temptation to put on loose, baggy board shorts during the summer. Instead, invest in a pair of perfectly fitted cotton shorts. While fashion dictums regarding length come and go, you’ll never go wrong with a pair that stops just above your knee. As for what colors to get, choose classic options such as khaki, navy, gray, or olive. If you’re feeling adventurous, try on bold colors like red, orange, or pink.

Comfortable Summer Footwear

After picking the right tops and bottoms, you need appropriate summer footwear to complete your look. For this season, open-toed options such as flip-flops, slippers, or sandals work best. In addition, make sure to choose a stylish pair that is made of durable materials such as rubber.

For more formal occasions, such as beach weddings, you’ll want to forego the open-toe footwear. Instead, go for closed footwear such as boat shoes, canvas shoes, or loafers, as they are more appropriate for these types of events.

And there you have it, essential items every man should have in their wardrobe and these summer fashion essentials, you’ll have an easier time looking polished and stylish, all while staying cool and comfortable. All you need is a bit of imagination and creativity. As long as you choose your summer staples wisely, you’ll be good to go for the entire season. Just remember to buy from high-quality brands so that your clothes will be sure to last you a long time. If you take good care of your garments, you can use them again next summer, too!

Thanks for the tips. Mr. G has all of those except comfy summer shoes. He has been wearing the same shoes since we’ve been married and doesn’t want to get rid of them.
