Growing up bilingual, I have always loved the idea of learning a new language. One thing I have learned over the years is that when learning a new language, you need to be motivated. Without a goal and motivation learning a new language can seem quite difficult.
Over the last few years, I have been to over 20 countries and though most speak English, it is not the native language. As a travel blogger, I think it is essential to be able to speak another language even just the basics. It is not only curtesy but allows you to communicate more easily with the natives.

Every year I travel to Africa, Asia and across Europe with frequent visits to Germany, France and Poland. I am currently planning our holidays to France and over the last few months I have been learning French. It is such a gorgeous language and whilst my pronunciation needs work, I am learning a new language. I am also learning German and can speak a little Polish to survive in a restaurant.
In this article, we aim to share 5 easy tips to utilise when learning a new language. These are tips I have been using lately and have helped me as I learn a new language.
Learning A New Language – 5 Easy Tips
When it comes to learning a new language, it is all about having the motivation and a goal. Without motivation the desire to learn a new language will fizzle out and that will be the end. There are so many reasons why people want to learn a new language;
- For work – it helps being bilingual and able to communicate with colleagues
- Moving Abroad – if English is not the local language, it pays to learn the native language
- School – Studying abroad is another reason people want to learn a new language
- Tourism – I frequently travel to Germany, France and Poland, it helps to be able to communicate much more easily.
These are some of the main reasons why people want to learn a new language. In case these reasons are similar to yours, here are some tips that you can utilise when learning a new language.

#1 Use online tools
Gone are the days when learning a new language, you had to be in school or used only books. These days there are several resources online that can be used to learn new languages. At the moment, I am using Duolingo to learn French and German, it is an easy app to use.
#2 Find a language partner
When I decided to learn Korean, I found a website that allows you to have a language partner. I taught them English and they taught me Korean, most is via typing but it’s a great way to learn a new language. You can also find a language partner that you can speak to, so you get familiar with pronunciations.
#3 Watch Movies with Subtitles
I am someone who can read as fast as the language is being spoken. I find it much easier to watch Korean movies with English subtitles as I am able to associate words much easily. Whereas for French, I mostly watch movies in English with French subtitles, I understand better this way.

#4 Visit the Country
Every year I travel to South Korea to visit my best friend, this is a great time to learn Korean. I am able to understand and articulate the language as it is being spoken by natives. One thing I have found is in movies, most do not use every day slang that is spoken.
#5 Learn from a Foreign Text Book
Learning a language is not all about being able to speak it but grammar is just as important. I find using foreign text books helps with the grammar and gives real world examples that you can expand on.
I do hope these tips will be useful as you start to learn a new language or continue with your studies. One other tip that I should mention is attending a language school is another great way to learn another language. In most instances you will be motivated to learn as you are paying for the class.

I would love to be able to speak a second language. I did French when I was younger and really enjoyed it. Really wish I’d kept it up post GCSE now. I’ve often thought about doing an online lesson or course. Some really good options in here x
