Las Iguanas is one of those restaurants that I have only visited a number of times but I am always looking forward to visiting time and again and sad I don’t have one close by in my town.

The first time I visited Las iguanas was when MOH and I went out for a date night in Cambridge town centre over 6 years ago now. There is a number of awesome restaurant chains in Cambridge and all have their own charms but MOH and I settled for Las Iguanas with hopes and dreams that one day we can visit Latin American countries and what better way to start than to try out some of their delicacies.
A few weekends ago I met up with my good friend Melissa and we decided to eat at Las Iguanas. This was not our first time, last year we met up and went to Las Iguanas were we had the best cocktails ever so much that we vowed to return and almost a year later we did. Las Iguanas is a Latin American restaurants which serves the best and irresistible food dishes with Portuguese, Spanish, India and African influences.
Atmosphere 4/4
When we arrived the place was packed as usual which is always a good sign but there were enough places at the bar to sit and enjoy a few drinks before being seated. We didn’t have to wait long (15-20 minutes) to be seated upon arrival at the restaurant. Though the place was packed it was not noisy, it had a nice ambiance and very relaxed environment.
Service 3/4
Like I said we were seated pretty quickly from when we entered Las Iguanas. The staff was friendly enough and very attentive which was highly appreciated. A few minutes after being seated and given our menus, waiter came and we ordered same cocktails like the last time we visited. I previously had Mango Collins (Malibu, strawberry, liqueur, lemon & cranberry Juices and lemonade) and since it was happy hour I managed to get another cocktail for free a passion fruit & orange cooler. This time round we ordered a pitcher each of the same cocktail and it was just as amazing as last time.
Food 3/4

The food was delicious and mouth-watering, last time I ordered Enchilada (£10.95) with beef but this time I wanted what my friend had last time which was XinXim (£13.95) which is chicken & crayfish in creamy lime & peanut sauce with spring onions, fine green beans, coconut farofa and sweet plantain. To say this meal really touched the spot, flavours exploded in your mouth is not giving it enough justice. The creamy lime & peanut sauce complimented the chicken & crayfish so well it was a sin to leave anything on the plate. My palate was thoroughly enlightened and rejoiced in the succulent flavours that the coconut farofa and sweet plantain brought to the table. Both my friend and I enjoyed this meal and happy to eat it again from Las Iguanas.

For dessert I opted for the Tembleque (£4.50) which is a creamy set coconut pudding with mixed berries & mango purée. I thoroughly enjoyed the flavours in my pudding but saddened at how scarce the ‘mango purée’ was, I mean it was barely there to taste but it was a nice pudding regardless. My friend had the churros (£3.95) and she wasn’t overly impressed as she felt they were better last year(2015) than this year (2016) but the waiter did mention there was a change in chef.
Pricing 4/4
I think the pricing was fair for the quality of food you get. The foods still had their original flavours, the chicken was tender, the sauce was thick enough, the plantain was cooked just right and the rice was on point. I was overly fond of the green beans though I did eat a few.
Overall
I think the restaurant serves really good foods and the staff are friendly enough. The ambiance was great throughout and I would go back again for seconds thirds and more. The food did arrive a bit late and waiter explained it was due to change in chef and profusely apologized for the delay but we were so busy chatting we didn’t really care much until we looked around and everyone seemed to have their food 😔.
Have you ever been to Las Iguanas before? What are/were your thoughts?
