Today is my mother’s birthday, she turns a ripe age of 53! Yes I know she is too young to have a 30-year-old daughter but then again not so young anymore. If your mother is anything like mine then she is also hard to shop for. You see my mother is so good at gifting others that we don’t really know what to gift her. If I give her money, she will just save it until one of her child or family needs money and she gives that to them. I don’t think I remember a moment when my mother selfishly went and just treated herself to something without getting us something first. But that’s true of all mothers isn’t it, always putting everyone else first before themselves.

Well for this birthday I wanted to spend some time with her and also treat her to something lovely. A few months back I realised that my parents are getting older and we need to spend more time with them. So every month my sister and I take mum out shopping and she gets whatever she wants. Though my sister and I alternate in taking her out shopping I still treat her extra on the side because she deserves it. For 30 years she did everything for us the least we can do is treat her for 30+ years too. 

A Mother’s Birthday Gift Guide

I put this mother’s birthday gift guide after sitting and thinking of what my mother loves and needs. As I mentioned mother’s are not the easiest to shop for and I think we’ve overdone the flowers and jewellery.

Crafts.

My mother is a multi talented woman who can cook, bake, knit, sew, loves to read and is a natural leader. Of all her skills she passed on leadership skills, love of reading, baking and a bit of knitting to me. The rest she passed onto my sister and my brother took leadership skills, cooking and the love of reading. Knowing all this about my mother I thought getting her crafts would be the perfect present.

She is a proud owner of an eBay {& esty} shop called TowelaJ where she sells all of her knitting and patterns (esty mostly). She’s been at it for years and is GREAT at it even if I do say so myself. You see even as kids, mum made EVERYTHING for us, from school uniforms to every day clothes. The only thing she couldn’t make wear shoes but I bet if she had the material and machinery she would have.

I decided as it’s her birthday, I will be taking her to her favourite sewing and knitting shops so she can pick her crafts.

Flowers

Flowers even though we’ve overdone it over the years they will always be a must do for all occasions. When we were young she always made sure we had fresh flowers in the house, over the years she moved to plastic ones. I want to ensure we continue the tradition and even though I don’t buy them everything, it’s worth it on every special occasion. Last year for her birthday I did buy her flowers from a florist in Marlow and they lasted over four weeks. I just needed to recall the name and order some more for her as I know she loved them.

Comfortable shoes 

For the last couple of years my mum has complained about some of her shoes and given up of wearing them. She is a nurse whose always on her feet running a ward and her feet takes the blunt of the work. Working 8-8 is nothing easy, working a night shift is even worse on the entire body but mostly the feet. Ensuring she has the most supportive and comfortable shoes is something that is of great importance to me. Obviously her overall health is very important but tackling what I can is the very first step.

Obviously there is so much more that I want to gift this woman that birthed and raised me. But I know loving her and supporting her as she gets older is always a good start.
