Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

New-in my wardrobe

Over the last couple of months I have made several purchases and have a couple of new-in my wardrobe pieces. Fashion is something that can allow one to express themselves and can be used as an identifier. We all know someone whom we consider fashionable or even up-to-date on fashion issues or trend followers. Whilst nothing wrong with trend following, I personally just love adding a twist to what’s trending. Most of the time I ignore new trends altogether and prefer to create my own style adding uniqueness to my outfits.

new-in my wardrobe

The majority of purchases that I have made have been replacing the items I gave away. Others were to replace some items which are now worn out due to excessive washing or wear and tear. With that being said, here are some of the items that are new-in my wardrobe.

New-In my Wardrobe

When it comes to purchasing clothes, I often start with my most worn pieces, Skinny Jeans from H&M are such. I love a good pair of skinny jeans and H&M stocks the ones that I love, stretchy and comfortable. On my recent trip to the store I purchased a couple in different colours since they are super affordable. I love that I can style skinny jeans quite easily, they can be dressed casually or smartly.

Pattern-weave jacket from H&M, I felt like I went out on a spree to H&M and bought all my replacements here. I do love their items, they are super cheap, of good quality and always last me a while. The checkered blazer jacket I purchased has become my go-to item for work and is very easy to style. I often don’t like blazer jackets but this one definitely had my name on it, makes me look forever professional.

Trainers from JustFab, I rarely wear trainers except for when I am traveling and loads of walking is involved. JustFab is an online fashion retailer that I have been using for years now and love 90% of their products. I have had a few mishaps but majority have been quality items which is why I still buy from them.

More new-in items that I have purchased include handbags and sandals from JustFab. I also managed to pick up a couple new lace underwear from New Look and other lingerie from Hunkemoller.

New-in items from travels

Whenever I am abroad, I try to buy something that would remind of the place, often that’s fridge magnets. Of late I have found myself buying a couple of clothing items that are indicative of my recent destination. During my visit to Athens, I picked up a nice shirt dress made of Greek flag colours, white & blue, which I liked. I also managed to purchase some leather sandals which have been a staple in my wardrobe since then.

When it comes to shopping, I have a love-hate relationship with it especially in the last few years. I have somehow found more pleasure in booking flights to far-flung destinations than going clothes shopping. But regardless, when it is absolutely necessary I like to update my wardrobe with some new items.

What has been your latest purchase? What’s new-in your wardrobe

I love a good skinny jean, but I haven’t tried the M&M ones. I think I might try those ones next time

H&M is definitely one of my favorite places to shop. I’ve never ordered from JustFab, but I have thought about it. I’m skeptical of ordering shoes. And I really like your idea of purchasing pieces abroad to remember the place.

I really struggle with clothes shopping so understand your love-hate relationship with it. I tend to wear items until they are falling to pieces, but now feel inspired to maybe treat myself to something new.
