Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Dine the Slovenia way with Skuhna

Skuhna is a social business initiative empowering migrants by providing them with training and work opportunities while bridging the information gap between the local populace and migrant communities through cultural and educational activities.

Skuhna Restaurant

It had been a long day of exploring Slovenia; Bled castle and Lake, Vintgar Gorge and Ljubljana city and Castle. Big Berry with the help of Visit Ljubljana had arranged for us bloggers to experience Ljubljana and explore the hidden beauties of the city. We started exploring the aforementioned areas after my arrival at Ljubljana airport around 11am and it wasn’t until 5-6pm that we sat down to have our long-awaited lunch.

Don’t get me wrong, Big Berry didn’t starve us, we had stopped in Bled to try out Bled cake called Kremna Rezina and it was absolutely delicious.

skuhna restaurant

Locating Skuhna was no easy feat as it is slightly hidden from the hustling and bustling of the restaurants and shops facing the Ljubljana river, instead you can locate it by finding perśern square and it’s 5 minutes walk to the restaurant. We visited Skuhna on a Thursday night, usually on Thursday around 7pm they have debate night called Skuhna talk but unfortunately due to other events happening there was no debate that night so we couldn’t participate in this forum. One thing I loved about Skuhna is that they change menus daily – when we arrived its Indian night. The menus are replicated every week (dedicate a meal to a specific country) but not repeated during the week i.e if Monday is Slovenian means Slovenia meal won’t be served again across the week. This way you get to experience different and authentic cuisines from around the world.

The menus always take the design of; starter – Soup (there is a choice of soup), Main dish (vegan option available) with side: rice, salad or bread. Sweets – desserts (from the country of the day)

Skuhna – means world cuisine (the Slovenian way).

The business was opened 2 years ago but has been running independently as a restaurant for a year now. As mentioned above it is a social business, the only establishment supporting immigrants in Slovenia and helping to connect immigrants together with the locals by teaching them skills that help them to get hired in other jobs in Slovenia.

Skuhna

They participate in cooking shows (Friday) in the city centre which is doing really well and supporting the restaurant business. The business also offers Student discount – students get coupons which they use to pay half price in restaurants in Ljubljana.

The restaurant was quite upon our arrival due to activities happening in the city (it was the world silk day), we had the pleasure of having the chef to ourselves and our host was very welcoming. We got to meet one of the owners of Skuhna restaurant who gave us a brief introduction of Skuhna and it’s purpose in Slovenia. As it was Indian night, I knew I needed a masala or sort but then figured I needed to try something new. Unfortunately I was too hungry to take pictures, it had been a long day after all and though the food didn’t take long to be prepared and served it was long enough for my hungry self.

skuhna

The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxing, we sat and chatted for a couple of hours before we moved on to our next adventure on the long list of things Big Berry had kindly arranged for us to visit to get the full experience of Slovenia. It was an amazing adventure exploring Slovenia and tasting some indian dishes served with Slovenia love. Thank you Big Berry for arranging this visit to Skuhna restaurant and thanks Skuhna for the warm welcome and delicious foods.

If you’re ever in Ljubljana and looking for a nice cosy restaurant with delicious tasting food then look no further than Skuhna. Find them on: Facebook and check out their website.

It sounds amazing. I’m doing a Taste the World challenge, cooking a meal from every part of the world, although I didn’t get the chance of cooking so much in the last months. This restaurant would be perfect for me, to get inspiration.
