Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Trending Makeup Colours and Styles for 2019

The runways of the top fashion capitals are already filled with looks that will dictate trends for 2019. From Paris to New York to Milan you can see that the next year will be bright and full of elegance. Designers let their imagination run wild, and it’s not a surprise that makeup artists do the same thing. Makeup trends for next year are rather versatile, so you’ll be able to pick the style that fits you personally. However, you might also consider expanding your makeup collection to create some of the ethereal looks from the runways.

Makeup Trends for 2019: Colours, Styles & Tricks

1.    Smokey eyes with glitter and gold

If you are in search of a glorious party look, smokey eyes remain the classic that can fit any occasion. However, in 2019, you should go bolder with it and add some glitter or a sparkly eyeliner. Gold is the trending colour, but if your complexion isn’t working with it, go for silver. The point is to make the sparkle subtle but catching in the proper light.

To complete such a glam look, you’ll need to go with a nude lipstick. Go for matte, it’s also trending and will distract even less from your stunning eye makeup.

2.    Colours everywhere

There is this classic makeup rule that you highlight either eyes or lips. It works in many situations, but 2019 is the year for those who want to be bold and daring. The next big trend is using bold-coloured eyeshadow (a single colour only) and painting your lips some vivid shade of red.

The eyeshadow colours can be anything, the bolder the better. This includes yellow, blue, and neon-pink. Choose the shade of lipstick complementary to the eyeshadow and add some artificial lashes to complete the look. Click here to see professional products in trending colour palettes. Choose the shades based on your skin tone and complete your look with accessories that will fit with the general colour scheme.

3.    Foil-like lips

The natural look still rocks in 2019, so you can go with as little makeup as possible (or none at all) and be trendy. However, if you want to add some glamour to this style, you should play around with the lipstick. Make your lips sensual and impossible to miss by creating a foil-like look.

To achieve it, you can simply paint your lips with sparkling eyeliner. Your lips will look like they are covered with liquid metal, which is sure to draw attention. This makeup style allows for ‘lipstick’ only. It’s the choice for classy parties where you get to wear elegant gowns.

4.    Statement eyeshadow

The natural look is getting a few makeovers in 2019. It seems that now it’s quite acceptable to use eyeshadow only. And you should be using it to make a statement. This means using a bold colour and covering your entire eyelid with it.

The look is daring and will work well if you are planning to show off your street style. It’s also very simple to create but it leaves a lasting impression. Colour-coordinate the eyeshadow with your outfit and complexion.

5.    Abstract eyeliner art

Colours aren’t the only things you can go bold with come 2019. Makeup artists also encourage everyone to play around with shapes. The classic ‘cat eyes’ drawn with an eyeliner are a thing of the past. Today you should be using this product to create ornaments on your eyelids (both upper and lower).

I’m excited to see the foil lip trend play out. It’s an interesting trend. I’m also looking forward to seeing more color. Nudes and neutrals can get old.

I love the foil-like look trend for 2019. At my age, I’m not sure I could pull off a smoky eye or the bright neon colors, but I would love it if I were younger!
