Technology is an integral part of our everyday lives but, are there any ways to fight boredom that don’t involve technology? Although it might not seem like it, there are several ways you can fight boredom without first reaching for your favourite devices. I will be honest and confess that I often cure boredom by reaching for my phone and iPad to either watch movies or chat with friends. So, if like me you are looking for ways to fight boredom that doesn’t involve technology then look no further as I have a few ideas.
Over the last few months, a lot of us have exhausted our ‘go-to’ activities that often helps us to keep boredom at bay. We have done it all and now I willing to try something new that we don’t often think about as a great way to appease the boredom that we often feel. I must admit that it took a lot of getting used to before I always able to abandon my favourite devices including the Nintendo which I recently bought for days when I want to play games that are not attached to my phone.

In this post, I will be sharing ideas that you are already familiar with but may not often reach for when it comes to curing your boredom.
WAYS TO FIGHT BOREDOM THAT DOESN’T INVOLVE TECHNOLOGY
Life has changed incredibly over the last 100 years more than anyone could have predicted. Technology is at the heart of everything we do from smart homes to key hole surgeries, live surgeries too telecommunication. With this advancement in technology, we have found ourselves at the mercy of it and often too addicted that it interrupts our everyday lives even affecting our relationships.
Whilst I am not opposed to the use of technology I do feel that it is important to take a social media detox either for an entire day, a weekend or even a couple of hours. I like the idea of taking control of my life without using technology for everything. This is why I am excited to share the ways to fight boredom that doesn’t involve technology, these tips are simple, things that you can do at anytime.
Reading
Reading a book, magazine or even a newspaper is one of the many ways one can fight boredom and don’t solely have to rely on technology. I know you can ready books on your kindle but in this case I mean physical copies and even though I love my kindle, I have rekindled my love for paperback reading and I have built a collection of incredible books that I am slowly working through. Everyday I allocate an hour to reading – 30 minutes before bed and 30 minutes immediately after waking up instead of reaching for my mobile phone.
Walking
Something so simple yet so therapeutic and very much needed. I go for a walk once or twice a during the week and then on weekends I often go for longer walks in the country. The beauty of living in the English countryside is that I have multitude of fields and walking paths near my home that I often take up. I mentioned in my recent post on how to reduce stress that walking is one the ways one can reduce stress and I stand by it. If you can afford to, go on a walk and leave your phone at home or take it with you and switch if off and just be in the moment and enjoy the fresh air.

Board games
Although I am not good ad board games other than snakes & ladders and monopoly I often shy away from playing board games as I am a sore loser but I still enjoy a few board games. Whenever I am with my friends we often play a board game of some sort and its always nice when there is more people around to play a board game with. If there is no one to play with then I recommend a 1000 a piece puzzle (I am still working on mine from last year).
Cooking and Baking
I love baking more than cooking but I love each for similar reasons, they cure boredom and take me away from my phone. Because I am frugal, I often batch cook my meals but on occasion I do love cooking up something fresh that I don’t have to defrost. Every weekend as part of my routine I bake something and although 90% its banana flavoured cupcakes, cake or bread (I love bananas) I still love that it occupies my mind and I don’t have to be reach for my phone all the time (I printed the recipes out). This week I am getting back to making some blueberry cupcakes and maybe one more banana cake.

Sleeping
Need I say more? Sleeping is one of my favourite ways to cure boredom and I wish I could do it more often. I know we all lead such busy lives that its often hard to just have a nap in the middle of the day when boredom often strikes. So, what can we do about it, instead of taking a break I sometimes set an alarm and nap in the afternoon (I have overslept once or twice) but only on days when I don’t have meetings otherwise if I am super tired, that’s a disaster waiting to happen. Other times I do schedule naps in after work and then sleep later although this is not always a good idea because often insomnia thinks I have had enough of this sleeping business and I am often wide awake at 2am. But in any case, sleeping is a great way to stay away from technology and cure boredom.
What are some of your tips for curing boredom that don’t involve the use of technology? When was the last time you had a social media detox? Or better yet, when was the last time you didn’t use your phone for most of your day?

Great suggestions, I agree that whilst technology is a great way to relieve boredom time away from it is important too. We have started having a family games night on a Saturday night away from screens etc which has been really nice. I do need to start reading more though too!

When I first read the title of the post, I chuckled and wondered to myself whether that was still a thing. But by the end of the post, I am realizing how shameful it is that the first thing that comes to mind when bored is to grab one’s phone or watch a show. However, there are so many other fun things to do. Thanks for that reminder.

I love doing all of these. I have been really getting into reading lately. I have 16 books I want to read this year. It is so nice not looking at a screen.

I live for social media detoxes. I find it important to find alternative ways to stimulate the brain or rest. For me it can be combining a couple of loves a book while having a soak in the bath

Nice suggestions and for me, I think cooking and baking is a great way to spend time and release stress. Although usually I would still listen to audio books or music while doing so.:) – Knycx Journeying

Generally we take help of technologies when we feel bored, that often leads to eyestrain, survical, etc.
You have shared great tips to get ourselves away from these and spend some time off screen.
