{Travel} Weekend Getaway to Vienna

Weekend getaway to Vienna was totally unplanned, when I was looking at what places I could visit whilst I am in Brno I did not know how close Vienna and Brno are to each other. I was searching google maps for other cities close to Brno that I could visit including Prague which I visited a mere 2-3 weeks ago. When I saw the Czech travel system I was impressed by how many places you can visit using the bus or train these places included Berlin, Budapest and of course Vienna. I looked at trains they were regular between Brno and Vienna costing €40 for single ticket and bus cost €18 return to Vienna so you know which one I chose. Though the train is fast the bus is less than 3 hours which I think is very reasonable amount of time.

Getting into Vienna was quicker than I thought, we left Brno around 9:30 and we arrived in Vienna just gone 11.45. The bus starts from Prague, Brno then Vienna before heading to Bratislava, in Vienna it stops at the Standon. From the Standon I bought an all day ticket for the train or bus for €7.60 which is so cheap and I took the U2 line to Karlplatz where from there you can pretty much navigate Vienna.

I visited the Naschmarkt then visited the Resselpark before stumbling upon the Soviet War memorial grounds which were absolutely breathtaking and humbling. From there I made my way to Schnobrunn palace where I spent a considerable amount of time exploring the grounds and admiring the architecture. Upon leaving the palace I heard to museum quarter where I saw the leopald museum as well as the museum of fine art.

All of these places I toured can be accessed using the U2 line or the U4 line from anyway in Vienna and you will get there. For the Naschmarkt get off at Karlplatz station and walk, for the Soviet war memorial it’s a couple stops from Karlplatz at Resselpark. To reach the Schnöbrunn palace it’s also a few stops from Karlplatz at Schnöbrunn station then to see the leopald museum get off at museum’s quarter.

After exploring alone for 4 hours I then used my remainder 2 hours before my return bus to Brno to get onto a tour bus and explore the rest of Vienna which was amazing. I managed to see the Danube river which Austria shares with Bratislava, I saw the Danube island, the Danube blue and the oldest amusement park in Europe. It was an amazing tour which I honestly recommend to all and one which I will be starting with next time I head to Vienna.

    One of the many things I miss about living in Europe is being able to get and go. One day you’re in London and the next in Lisbon, Vienna or any other relatively nearby country. Vienna is a beautiful city and you captured some its beauty very well. 🙂

    Beautiful pictures! I’d love to visit Vienna myself – my mum and dad went a few times and they really enjoyed it.. It’s great that you can visit so many lovely places from where you are.
