Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

5 Things that made August Epic

With only a few days left of the month, I wanted to share some of the things that made August epic as I continue on my quest to celebrate the small things in life. Earlier in the month I shared 5 things that happened in July and I hope to continue with celebrating these small wins every single month. Sitting down and thinking about all the things that made August epic brings a smile to my face because the last 18+ months have been nothing but taxing in every shape or form and I felt like I finally could breathe. I was able to finally do something that I had been deprived off for the last year.

For most of us, our mental health suffered greatly over the past year and slowly we’ve started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am a sociable creature and I love spending time with people but I am also a (star sign) cancer and crave alone time a lot more than most. During the past year I got the alone time that I loved but I missed the other half of my character and this impacted my mental health. But, in all honesty, I was so busy with buying a house, furnishing it, purchasing a rental property, finding a tenant and managing 4 projects at work and it has taken its toll.

few days left of the month, I wanted to share some of the things that made August epic as I continue on my quest to celebrate the small things in life. Earlier in the month I shared 5 things that happened in July and I hope to continue with celebrating these small wins every single month.

5 Things that made August Epic

August for me always feels like the longest month of the year except this year because the 5 weeks seem to always take their toll on me. This year however, I chose to look at the month differently, I had successfully completed two of the four projects I had which meant things at work were cooling down. Almost everyone was on vacation, which meant I could catch up on this I had put on the back burner for many months. This was incredible but its not one of the things that made August epic for me but it did add to my sense of accomplishment.

The goal for the rest of the year to is to enjoy and celebrate the small things in my life and each month I will be doing just that. Things that made August epic are special in their own right and after the past 18+ months, I have come to appreciate the people in my life more and the connections I have made over the last couple of years even more. Even though I probably have a list as long as my arm for things that contributed to the success of August, I will leave them for another time. For now, allow me to share the few things that made this month epic.

International Travel

If you know anything about me, I am a travel addict and the last 18+ months have been absolute hell for me not being able to travel. Obviously no one could have predicted this would happen but it did not lessen the blow when we realised after 3-6 months that travel has (1) changed forever and (2) we won’t be travelling anywhere anytime soon. The last time I travelled was around this time last year to Venice, Italy and this was after 8 months of being stuck indoors. Being able to travel again made me extremely happy and I felt alive again and I chose my trusted Zagreb, Croatia for my first international trip of the year.

Visiting The Shard, London

The Shard in London is an iconic building and a very popular tourist attraction in the English capital. I bought my tickets to visit the Shard back over 2 years ago. When the world went into lockdown all plans where put on hold and for some reason I thought my ticket expired during that time. Then recently as I was purchasing a present for my sister’s birthday, I blindly clicked on my ticket for The Shard and realised I had until end of this year to use it. So, I planned my trip to London, it took a nice 30-minutes of queueing before I finally got to get into The Shard, enjoyed the epic view of London and felt content.

Connecting with Friends

There are only two reasons why I would travel to London; food and friends and that’s the reason I went twice to the English capital. To help celebrate my girl WinceEats.com for her birthday, I trotted to London for a nice even connecting with her and her closets friends. The second visit to London considered with the visit to The Shard, I met up with my girl Caroline, the owner of the TravelBox and TravelEatSlay. This woman is multi-talented and a down to earth all round great person to be around. We caught up over the German Donner Kebabs and I will share a review of that in a couple weeks time.

Spending time with Family

As much as I speak to my parents regularly on the phone, I have not been home in almost 2 years due to the sis rona but thankfully my parents have been coming over to mine often which I loved. This time round, I made a decision to spend the long bank holiday weekend with them and boi was it epic or what. Its been a while since mum and I run errands together, let’s just say it is always tiring but there is always plenty of laughter and smiles. I also got to spend time with my sister for her birthday.

Attending Church in Person

It’s been over 2 years since I last attended an in-person divine service and seen most of the people at my church. It was so good being back together again in church even if we still had to wear our masks and couldn’t shake hands or hug but it felt great being back together in the house of the Lord. It feels weird now going back to online church but I know it is easier to attend that way then in person but I want at least once a month to attend an in-person service.

And there you have it, these are the few things that made August epic, I am excited for September as it’s my mother’s birthday. What are some of the things that made your month?
