Financial Report Q1 2016

Welcome to my 2016 financial report q1. Blog financial Report(s) are now a thing in the blogging world, some call the income reports or expenditure reports but regardless of what you call them they are now a thing. I started mine last year after my birthday when I realised I had no clue what I was earning from my blogs and wanted to stay on top on them.

Most people prefer to keep these personal especially if this is their full time job but I chose to share mine as blogging is a hobby turned business and I want to share both my gains and my losses to new and old bloggers. There are so many bloggers out there who are losing hope, wondering if they will ever make money from it or not.

I did not start out to make money, I have been very fortunate that making money is now a possibility with my blog. Do not be fooled, blogging is hard work and if you’re thinking you will be making money from the get go then you will be surely disappointed and also note making money from the blog is not consistent.

Financial Report Q1 2016

The majority of stories you see in the media about people making money from home, from blogging is not all it seems. There is blood and sweat, time that you will never get back and effort that goes into making serious money from blogging. Like I said this blog for me is a hobby, I have a full-time job but I am also starting to make this blog into a business and it is proving challenging and needs more work and hours than I can give it so I take it one day at a time.

Theย last Financial report was Q4 2015 where I made ยฃ705 cash in bank and ยฃ63 in products for review.ย This from a hobby is a beautiful amount which I honestly should have been saving but been using to fund my weekend trips away and I do not regret that. I am very fortunate to be able to generate such income from the blog, many people who share their income reports will break it down into ‘income directly from blog‘, ‘income from affiliates‘ and ‘income from page views‘ (adsense etc).

I do not break mine like this because I only earn from my blog directly, my page views are too low to earnย anything worth mentioning on the blog and same applies to affiliates but for this quarter I will add affiliates and directly from the blog.

January Earnings – ยฃ615.90 (before paypal fees) + ยฃ150 (amazon gift card via affiliate) + $100 (ยฃ70) in products = ยฃ835.90

January like December is always a good month since I started receiving sponsors on my blog. There are so many companies wanting to work with bloggers to advertise their brand or starting out anew and want bloggers to spread the word. I worked with a lot of companies which was great and some were repeat sponsors which is ever better, I also had chance to use the new social influencer network Buzzoole where I earned upto ยฃ330 in points but only checked out ยฃ150 in amazon gift cards. I also had an opportunity to review some beauty products worth in total about $100.

February Earnings – ยฃ247 (before paypal fees) + $40 (via brandbacker an affiliate network) + ยฃ30 in products = ยฃ292

February was a good month though I spent most of it traveling so did not have a chance to accept more sponsorship but I think I earned a good amount to use for my travels. I also received a few products to review including L’Oreal Paris Excellence cream in brown but didn’t really do much for me apart from make my black hair look jet black (which was awesome).

March Earnings – ยฃ502 (before paypal fees) + ยฃ50 (amazon gift card via affiliate)

March was another good month for the blog, I still have a few products to try even some sponsorship yet to be paid so I have not included those in this count. I worked with some lovely companies most notable being House of Fraser. Another good month for A July Dreamer.

All these totals are before any sort of tax is applied and VA’s paid, I have presented this way so new bloggers can see it’s totally possible to earn something from the blog.

Earnings from Q1 of 2016 = ยฃ1,679.90.

I am very pleased with these earnings and are very excited to see what Q2 2016 and the rest of 2016 has in store for me and my blog.

Is blogging a hobby, business or a little bit of both? Do you earn anything from the blog? Do you share your earnings (if at all)?

I think I probably could earn something from my blog but I’m scared to make the jump. It means declaring yourself “self employed” and doing your own taxes and it will mess up any benefits we recieve (just working tax credit) and it’s not consistent….I’m too afraid to take the jump.
