Looking back at each decade, I feel both ‘older’ and ‘younger’, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.
2006 - 19, (Glasgow, Scotland), I thought I was grown (look at the cheekbones 🤣🤣) and ready for the world, chiiiild was I wrong, let’s just say, I am still resolving the trauma the decade brought me but I am grateful because I met my best friends and made decisions for the future I wanted to have. (Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing 🤨
1988 - 9 months, (Chililabombwe, Zambia) although my mother looks tired and traumatised😟, I know I was loved and happy.

Four ways to improve sleep

Sleep, one of the most important actions that our bodies need on a daily basis to function at optimal levels. As important as food is for the nourishment and functioning of the body, sleep is important to allow certain processes to happen to support the body. As a self-declared insomniac, sleep is very important to me and my overall well-being. I always searching for ways to improve sleep and have a healthy and restful night. It is not easy when you have hectic sleeping patterns but the following tips can help. I will also be sharing a really informative infographic on The secret of healthy sleep below.

Improve sleep

Four Ways to Improve Sleep

The tips I am about to share are what has worked for me though occasionally I need to change switch them up. The tips might work for you too or they might not, it depends on individual circumstances. Please consult sleep experts and specialists if you’re unsure of anything.

Develop a Routine

One of the most important ways to improve sleep is to set a routine. For some having a routine is not as easy as 1-2-3 but for many creating a routine is paramount to that restful sleep. I work 9-5 and have insomnia so I try to get as much sleep as I possibly can. Setting a routine of when I go to bed has helped me dramatically and has improved my sleep. It is not always possible for me to sleep at 10pm, half the time I sleep at midnight but my body had adjusted.

Include Exercise in your lifestyle

Yes I said exercise, stop groaning at me and listen because this is important. I am not talking of strenuous exercise that will leave you half day though it might be appealing. I am talking exercises that actually can help improve and help you achieve a restful night. For me what has worked is attending Yoga and Body Balance classes 3-4 times a week. I have truly seen the difference in my sleep pattern since I incorporated exercise into my lifestyle

Comfortable Mattress and Pillow

Many people underestimate the importance of a good pillow and mattress when it comes to sleep. Over the last few years I invested greatly on what I sleep on and where I lay my head. Whilst I am ok to sleep without a pillow I know my neck would suffer for it later. Recently we were lucky to be sent a FUÜM Mattress which is just lovely and everything you need in a mattress. Though I am looking to replace my current Benson’s pillows they do a wonderful job protecting my neck.

Turn off the Gadgets

Along side setting a daily routine, it is as important to ensure your bedroom is a technology free space. Yes with smart living comes the use electronics everywhere in our homes, gadgets should be off. For many of us {especially bloggers} we are constantly on our phones, from the moment we awake till we sleep. That’s why it’s so important to have an area where electronics are banned and is a technology free zone.

There are many weird and wonderful tips out there to improve one’s sleep and get a restful night’s sleep. As mentioned above, the tips I have shared help me to get a good night’s sleep. Maybe they could be helpful to you too or may the infographic has the information you need.

We actually do meditation before bed and it really helps us get into a deeper sleep. We also have a no gadgets policy after a certain time.

When I don’t get enough sleep I notice all kinds of problems. I have food cravings, feel rotten and definitely don’t function at my best. Turning off my phone an hour before bed definitely helps

Oh sleep – as a parent to a newborn baby this isn’t something I have much of these days. Though I still like to be comfortable when I’m feeding her 🙂

It’s important to ensure you have the right pillows. If I don’t like what I have I don’t use one at all
