Sweat treats often get a bad rep because they contain sugar, sugar in all its forms is a carbohydrate. But did you know that not all sweat treats are bad for you? Have you ever sat down to understand which sugar is bad (refined – processed from sugarcane or beets) and which is good for you (natural sugars – found in fruits, milk etc)? Thanks to the gluten-free hampers from Yumbles I can share the best sweat treats.
As a sugar addict and someone who is slowly weaning myself off of processed sugar, I can tell you it been important for me to know what kind of sugar I am putting into my body. Every day I spend lots of time reading the labels on foods and avoiding foods with added sugar as this is processed sugar which is not good for the body. Scientists for many years have compared sugar addiction to that of drugs like cocaine, the more you have it the more you want it.

Not All Sweet Treats Are Bad For You
Every sugar addict knows how hard it is to give up sugar (refined) but with some education, it is possible by learning that not all sweet treats are bad for you. Sugar gets a continuous bad rep because its a carbohydrate that the body converts into glucose and uses as a form of energy. The issue is that refined sugar is processed faster than natural sugar, doesn’t make you feel full and causes the release of insulin that converts excess sugar into fats and glucagon.
The biggest issue with sugar is that, once it reaches your intestines, it doesn’t matter what kind of sugar it is. If you’re too much sugar in your system, it will convert the excess sugar hence why consuming sugar is considered the thing. But like with everything in life, sugar in moderation it won’t cause common sugar-related diseases like Type II diabetes and even weight gain. It is important to remember that refined or processed sugar is the bad sugar and you should replace it with natural sugars.
Yumbles has a wide range of sweet treats in various hampers from gluten-free through to free from items and makes for good presents. Prior to this collaboration, I was not familiar with the company but half over a week of talks I am happy to be collaborating with them. I chose a small healthy hamper by Seventeen Green and absolutely love the goodies I received. What I loved the most about the hamper is the range of products it contained, Rebel Kitchen’s
Seven Sugar Replacements and Treats
One of the many reasons why people struggle with giving up processed sugar is because it tastes so good, but there are many alternatives that taste just as good. There is one thing I should clarify, as a sugar addict, I am not just going to drop all sugar and run to the alternatives. The issue with that is that sugar is a drug when you crash {been there}, your body will have an even stronger craving for processed sugar, make sure you start slow.
Below is a list of sugar replacements and treats that you can transition too slowly whilst at the same time reducing your intake of refined sugar products. It not always fun to spend hours reading the labels but it becomes easy and some sweat treats even have in big letters, free from, no added sugar etc.
- Fruits – apples, strawberries, peaches etc
- Avocados
- Honey – natural
sweetner - Milk – has sugar but in combination with other nutrients.
- Vegetables
- Chia Seeds
There are many other sweet alternative treats available but personally the above are my go to treats. Everyone has their own guilt pleasures, for me its sweat treats, movies and plane tickets, what are yours?

I’ve been cutting back on sugar too. I’ve been experimenting a lot with baking, subsitituting sugar for honey. It changes the flavour but is still yummy.

We are big fans of Yumbles, as a treat. I tend to prefer my kids to eat “natural” sugar in fruits, if I can, and things like nuts and even dried fruit. Sugar is a tricky one because it can be hidden in so many things, that are targeted at parents feeding kids. Thanks for sharing!

I’m really interested in this as I have a massive issue with sugar addiction.
Since I lost a lot of weight some years ago my sweet tooth has developed hugely and it’s really having a huge impact on my weight.
Thank you for sharing this, it’s just what I need x

I often feel the need for a sugar boost but tend to head to our corner shop as it is near by and grab a can of coke. I would much rather go for a more healthy option like you’ve suggested!
