Looking back at each decade, I feel both โ€˜olderโ€™ and โ€˜youngerโ€™, I see the change in my features, the change in my way of life, the change in my personality and the experience itched on my face. I am grateful for the life I have lived thus far and excited for the life I am yet to live.

2026 - 39, (Home, England), I am ready for this final year before my 40s but also ready for this next decade.
2016 - 29, (Oslo, Norway), this decade was about self discovery and building the life I dreamt about. The life that I am super proud of and truly grateful to be living. This decade, I built my financial life and in later years choose to heal from the trauma gained in the last decade and now I feel well equipped for the future.

(Spoiler alert - I did better than I dreamed).
1996 - 9, (Home, Zambia) this was my birthday but my little sister insisted she had to be the one in the middle. The only way we knew whose birthday it was, was by standing in the middle but this year I remember baby sister crying her eyes out and refusing ๐Ÿคจ

Summer Self-Care Routine – 3 Simple Tips

With summer already underway, there is no better time than now to implement your summer self-care routine. I am always buffed by how many people tell me they donโ€™t follow any sort of routine in their lives. Obviously we all lead different lives and have different priorities but somehow I can not imagine not having some sort of routine in my daily life. Friends with children often tell me, they too would be lost without some sort of routine in their lives.

Over the last couple of weeks, the weather in the UK has been absolutely glorious and I happy to live in Costa de Oxford. During the summer months, we often find ourselves running around trying to get to finish off that last project before your vacation, trying to fit in a visit to the beach or jet off somewhere nicer that we forget about enjoying the moment. Every summer, I make a point of putting together a summer self-care routine that allows me to be more intentional and focus on the now.

Summer Self-Care Routine

I know itโ€™s easy for someone like me to tell you that you should have a summer self-care routine when you have barely 2-minutes to sit down and relax. But all I say to that is, you know yourself, your situation and your life better than me. You know whether you are allocating time wisely because the worst thing that can happen is you burn out then you are no good to anyone. Sometimes, being selfish is the best form of self-care that one can do for themselves.

Summer Self-care Routine – Why itโ€™s important to have one

Summertime for many can be one of the most stressful times of the year, the children are home for a whole six weeks, the work keeps piling up and vacations with the family are exhausting. There is always another load of laundry to be done, summer activities for the kids, another last-minute project to be completed. Regardless of how crazy busy you are, you always need to make time for your thoroughly deserved summer self-care routine.

Self-care to me isnโ€™t spa nights with the girls, city escapes with your partner or a home spa setup. To me is all about finding that 5-minute to just lie down on the floor and just breath or that 20-minute break to shut take a walk around your neighbourhood or a drive/walk to the park. Self-care can be anything that brings you peace, tranquillity and allows you a moment to recharge your batteries. As part of my summer self-care routine, I do these simple things and I am much happier for it.

Face Mask Time

Due to busy work life, I donโ€™t often have time to just set up a home spa and just relax so I scheduled into my to-do list a face mask time. This can be either the first thing I do in the morning before I start work or the last thing I do before I sleep. Most of the masks that I own are to be worn for at least 15-20 minutes so I schedule that time in and just enjoy the feel of the mask on my face.

  • Face mask recommendations: ginseng and hyaluronic acid based masks – no particular brands.

Going for a walk

Sometimes, going for a walk is the only kind of self-care your body needs. Having a stressful job, I find that stepping away from everything for a minute and just going for a walk does wonder for my overall well-being. It is easy to get lost and stuck in whatever you are doing that you forget about the simplest way to recharge and reconnect is by stepping away and taking a walk.

  • Great places to enjoy a walk: Local park, National Trust (UK), nearest forests.

Taking a long bath

Now, this might not seem like much but for me, a long soak in the bath is exactly what the doctor ordered on most nights. I am normally a shower kind of person but when I want to return and chill out then I take long baths. I have a few bath bombs that I often put in the bath every Sunday when I am enjoying my 1-hour relaxation time. Your summer self-care routine doesn’t have to be expensive, you just need to make time for you.

  • Make time for you, soak in a bath with your favourite bath bomb and chill

Summer is my favourite season after Autumn, mostly because 90% of my wardrobe is summer centric. I am excited to spend long Sunday evenings soaking in the bath and wearing my masks a couple of times throughout the week. There are many other things you can include on your summer self-care routine but I often opt for simplicity than complicating things.

Do you have a summer routine? Either a general one or a summer face routine? I have both, I go to bed at the same time every night and wake up around the same time following a routine (season dependent). It is the same for my face time routine, I know what products work best for my skin time and which products to use during whatever season.

We don’t currently have a bath, but I can’t wait to get one fitted as I have missed having one so much. While the weather is still okay I need to go on more walks x

I have been walking more and just chilling in the local park. I think spending more time outside has helped.

I love the self-care tips. I’ve really got into walking since lockdown earlier this year and find that I really enjoy having that me time to just think and listen to music while having a wander x

I always go for walks during summer for my own self care – nothing beats a walk in the sunshine with your own thoughts. I do love a long bath too.

There is only one thing I do that could count as a self-care routine. Every morning I sit alone with my coffee for at least 10 minutes, to make sure my head is clear.
