With Spring in the air, it’s time to transition your daily skincare routine from the winter skincare routine to gentler Spring skincare routine. As someone with combination skin, it has taken me years to figure out which products work best for my slightly sensitive combination skin. Over the last twelve months being stuck indoors, I have had to adapt my skincare routine based on my needs because constantly having the heating on everyday can affect your skin. Although I don’t particularly suffer from any skin conditions, in the past year, my skin was reacting to everything and anything and required more attention than usual.
When it comes to transition(ing) your daily skincare routine between seasons, it is important to take note of what products worked best and what did not. I have been wearing a lot of sheet masks to keep my face rejuvenated, hydrated and nourished. I noticed that wearing a sheet mask everyday helped my skin and also reduced mask-acne that seems to have taken the globe by storm seeing as everyone is wearing a mask all the time. So, if you need some help to transition your daily skincare routine then look no further. The tips that I share in this post are those that I use myself and can be adapted for your needs.

How To Transition Your Daily Skincare Routine
I think before I share how to transition your daily skincare routine, I think it is important first to understand the basics of what’s makes a good skincare routine. I follow a simple system called CTM which stands for Cleansing, Toning and Moisturising and I practice these daily without fail. You also need to understand what your skin type is, I have what is known as a combination skin type, and the other two are oily skin or dry skin type. Determining which you have will help you understand what kind of products you should be using, for example you don’t want to use products that strip moisture if you have dry skin but rather want one that boosts and promotes hydration.
Now that we have the basics out of the way, below I share a few tips on how you can transition your daily skincare routine to match the season. I have always mentioned on the blog that I change up my skincare routine seasonally, I don’t want heavy products in the summer and similarly I don’t want light products that will be stripped off the minute I take a step outside during the winter months. It is all about funding the right balance and I need to clarify, when I say my change my skincare routine seasonally I don’t mean I buy new products all the time. Every new season, I look through my beauty cabinet and only replace those that have finished or those that I will need for that season.
Here is how to transition your daily skincare routine.
Foam cleaning to oil cleansers
It think it is important to change up the type of cleansers you use every so often and for me this is seasonally. During the winter months, I don’t wear makeup that much and when I do, I remove with wipes then use the foam cleanser – I also do a double cleansing the unclog the pores. During summer months, I wear light makeup and use oil cleansers to remove the makeup, sweat and any impurities on the surface of the skin. I was anti oil cleansers but now I appreciate them as they truly do work and get right into the pores and deep clean.
Adding Serum to the Equation
Serums have many benefits from improving the appearance of fine lights to protecting your skin from free radicals. They can do wonders for your skin, I love serums in the warmer months because they get easily absorbed into the skin, provides ‘instant’ results and just leaves the skin feeling refreshed and light. When it comes to serums and toners, I tend to stick to the same brands or use products with the same active ingredients, this is just a personal preference of mine.

Increase exfoliation frequency
During the summer months you have to absolutely exfoliate your face at least twice a week to unclog your pores from sweat, humidity and other impurities to enhance hydration. I don’t often exfoliate during winter months and when I do its a few times across the entire season but during summer months, with sweating a lot and if you are wearing making your pores get clogged, skin feels murky and such, you need to exfoliate.
Eye Cream is optional
I personally don’t wear eye cream at all but I know that there are people who swear by wearing eye creams as they do wonders for them. When I am doing a full spa season at home, I often wear eye cream but other than that it’s not something I often incorporate into my daily skincare routine.
Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise
During the warmer months, your body loses a lot of moisture and you need to replenishing to and you can do this my ensure you wear moisturiser to lock-in those good products and keep the hydrating in your skin. Plus don’t forget to drink water to help with maintaining a healthy moisturised face.
Like I said before, you can adapt this daily skincare routine to meet your needs and knowing your skin type if the first step. As someone with combination skin, I cleanse, use toner and moisturise daily and also I wear sheet mask daily – this is a personal preference. If you want to transition your daily skincare routine, start with what you have, understand which products work best for your skin and research whether they are the best products to use when the season changes.
