How To Plan For The Perfect Weekend Ski Break In Morzine

If you’re like me, you’ll know all too well that there’s nothing better than being organized when it comes to taking a trip somewhere. Whether it’s a month-long travel expedition or a weekend away, being organized and planning efficiently is always the key to avoid any unwanted stress and drama. After all, you don’t want anything to spoil your relaxing break, do you? Those of you who have a skiing break in 2017 planned will love this article, and those only going for the weekend will love it even more! Here are some tips and advice on how to plan for a short ski break in the lovely Morzine.

Know The Weather Conditions

When you’re planning a ski trip anywhere, the most important aspect is to be aware of the climate and weather conditions at different times of the year. Do as much research as you can and compare the weather conditions and snow quality to your skiing ability and preferences.

December is a popular time for skiers to visit Morzine, not only because of the holidays, but also because of the snow quality. Although the snow quality has died down come March, the weather is a little kinder, with the sun shining for longer each day. April is often the snowiest month, but the temperature during the summer months is much better suited to outdoor activities.

Know The Slopes

If you’re a beginner or someone in your group is, it’s essential to check whether the resort has adequate areas and slopes to cater for their abilities. Morzine is an incredibly family friendly resort, so this should not be a problem. Just make sure to check the location of these areas first! Also, check the whereabouts and number of green, blue, red and black pistes in Morzine.

Choose Accommodation Wisely

There is a wide range of accommodation in Morzine to suit all sort of tastes, budgets and preferences. There is something for everyone, whether that be a hotel, an apartment, or a chalet. In fact, Morzine chalets are incredibly popular, particularly for groups. Chalets are great in the way that they are catered, and beginners usually go for this option because of its flexibility. Make sure you get your accommodation booked pretty swiftly – it should be one of the first things you do when planning a ski break. And who knows? You’ll more than likely pay less if you book in advance.

Plan Your Journey Accordingly

Some people prefer to plan their journey before booking their accommodation, and vice versa. No matter which one applies to you, this is one of the most important aspects of planning for your ski break to Morzine. The easiest option to travel would be to fly – if you’re travelling from outside of France, it would be best to fly into Geneva Airport because it’s closest, at just over an hour and a half drive. The second closest airport to Morzine is Chambery, which is about a 2-hour drive. It’s only open in winter, though.

After landing, you can take either a public bus or a transfer to your resort; you should look this up and book in advance if a private transfer is what you’re after. On the other hand, you can take an international coach from the UK to Geneva, Annecy or Cluses, and take a local bus from either of these to your resort. There are many ways to access Morzine, so it’s essential to know pretty quickly which one best suits you.

Find Out About Ski Lessons

Whether you’ve never been skiing in your life or you’re an advanced skier (but someone in your group is not), it’s always a wise idea to look up skiing lessons before heading off to Morzine. During school holidays, ski schools tend to get booked up quite quickly. With this in mind, it’s worth not leaving this part of planning until the very last minute.

When choosing a ski school, take into account a few things first. Do they speak fluent English? Do they have a good reputation and/or reviews? Are they fully qualified?

Establish Whether To Hire Or Buy Equipment

The age-old question for many skiers is whether they should hire or buy their skiing equipment. Of course, this aspect of planning all depends on your budget and how often you take skiing breaks in Morzine (or elsewhere).

If you decide to buy some of your equipment and hire other pieces, make sure you invest in a pair of top quality skiing boots. A well-fitted pair of boots is essential for skiing. Other key pieces of equipment to bring along with you are gloves, goggles, ski socks, thermals, and a ski jacket and trousers. You can buy or hire a ski helmet and skis, and this could be a viable option for you and your needs.

Research What Morzine Has To Offer

You’re only going for a weekend, so you’ll more than likely want to do as much as you can in that short time. Morzine is renowned for its vast choice of entertainment options. It has plenty of lively bars to enjoy an après ski drink or two, most of them designed in a gorgeous, rustic chalet style.

There are also many activities to enjoy, including a helicopter ride, cookery classes, and Aquariaz, the resort’s water park. If you’d rather spend the weekend relaxing (when you’re not skiing!) then you’ll be happy to know that Morzine has plenty of spas to keep the stress at bay. They each offer a range of beauty treatments and are a fantastic way to unwind and detoxify the body.

Arrange Currency Transfer & Insurance

Simple, but essential, steps to plan a weekend ski break in Morzine – sorting out your currency transfer and insurance. You should never go skiing without insurance, and there are so many providers to choose from. It’s definitely worth shopping around and looking for the best deals; this can all be done online. When you’re sure you’ve found a good deal, purchase your insurance. Then it’s one less thing to worry about, right? The same applies for currency transfer – shopping around and looking for the best rates is key. Going for the first-rate you find may result in you feeling a bit ripped off when you find out that there are other places offering much better rates.

So, now you know how to plan accordingly for the perfect weekend ski break in Morzine. It’s not so difficult, is it? All you need is a bit of patience, a fast WiFi connection, and a positive attitude. The fantastic aspect of Morzine is that it’s so family friendly, and caters for all sorts of needs and budgets. There’s lots to do, whether you want to be as active as possible during your ski break, or take the relaxation time that you need. It really does have something for everyone, and this applies to the slopes, too. Morzine is great for both beginners and intermediate and advanced skiers. There are some amazing ski schools available, and some top quality pistes for the daredevils in the group who want nothing more than to get on those slopes. Happy skiing!

Some great advice. I’ve been skiing a long time ago. I remember it being very expensive and you have to be organised. Do your research first about accommodation and hiring equipment.
