With Christmas around the corner, I have been busy searching for the perfect Christmas gifts for Solo travellers. Being a solo traveller myself, I know that 90% of the gifts I get are rarely something that I want or need when I travel. This is why I thought I compile a list of items that as a solo traveller I would love to receive from my family and friends. Those who know me know I would rather you bought me a seat on a flight somewhere exotic or a gift card.

Over the last 5 years of solo travel, I have learned what items make the best gifts for fellow solo travellers. I don’t need a suitcase, I would much rather get a backpack or invest in a great neck pillow or better yet money to spend on my travels. For those who rarely travel, it can sometimes be hard to get just the right gift for your traveller friend and we hope this Christmas, you will utilise our gift guide and get the perfect Christmas gift for solo travellers.

The Perfect Christmas Gifts for Solo Travellers

When I started solo travelling back in 2014, I quickly realised I was almost always underprepared and 90% overpacked so when my family asked me what I wanted for Christmas that year, I thought backpack. Not only did it teach me to only carry essential items that I needed and will use but became very convenient to carry around as I explored new places. I always recommend backpacks because they are so much easier to drag around than suitcases and in most instances, you don’t even have to pay for luggage.

There are many times when family and friends would buy items that they have seen other travellers use but in most instances, those are not items that I need. I always say, if you’re unsure about ever the solo traveller in your life would like the gift, then get them a gift guide for their favourite airline or shop. I would also recommend asking them outright what kind of things they always carry with them when they travel and items that they could do with.

Below I have listed a number of things that I know fellow solo travellers would appreciate receiving this Christmas.

• Winter Coat – with the weather taking a turn for the worst, your solo traveller friends are analysing if the coats they have will do the job this winter. I would recommend checking what kind of coat they would want then getting that for them, something lightweight, water and windproof and has a thermal lining.
• Hot water bottle – this may not appeal to all but as the weather gets colder, hot water bottles became a traveller’s best friend especially solo travellers. The smaller the hot water bottle the better as you don’t want something that will be taking up too much space.
• Winter Accessories – I would recommend getting thermal gloves, woolly hats, blanket scarves and winter socks. There is nothing I love more than being warm and cosy as I navigate the world during colder months.
• A flight somewhere nice – I don’t know of a traveller who wouldn’t appreciate a flight to somewhere nice and during the winter months, somewhere warm would be ideal. I always tell my family and friends, a flight anywhere in the world makes for a perfect gift for someone like me.

There are some many items I want to add onto the list but I think asking the solo traveller in your life what they need is probably the best gift ever. As a frequent traveller, there is nothing I love more than receiving travel-related gifts like a neck pillow, luggage tags, compression socks and better yet, I am a size window seat.
