Staycation means holidaying within your home or country instead of flying abroad. Regular readers know I took part in the #take12trips travel challenge which sparked my love for traveling. When you travel you get enriched and empowered with new knowledge and perspective of how the other side lives. But many a time most of us forget how much we have available at our finger tips.
I have spent the last 12 months traveling from country to country on my weekend getaways or full 2 week holiday. To show just how much travel I have done here is a quick recap. {Full Recap will be in #Take12Trips Month 12}.
- December 2015, I traveled to Ljubljana in Slovenia and Kaunas/Vilnius in Lithuania.
- January 2016, I traveled to Prague in Czech Republic.
- February 2016, I traveled to Brno in Czech Republic, Vienna in Austria and Bratislava in Slovakia. Then to end the month I traveled to Amsterdam in The Netherlands and Brussels in Belgium.
- March 2016, I traveled to Warsaw in Poland.
- April 2016, I traveled to Oslo in Norway and Seoul in South Korea.
- May 2016, I was still in Seoul, South Korea for the first week and half.
- June 2016, I traveled to Hamburg, Germany then I was invited to Slovenia where I traveled to Bled, Ljubljana then to Promostek.
- July 2016, I traveled to Dublin Ireland and then to end the month to Copenhagen in Denmark.
- August 2016, I got banned from leaving the country by my mother so I managed to visit Castle Combe in Chippenham
- September 2016, I traveled to Johannesburg South Africa where I managed to visit Soweto and Pretoria. Then at end of the month I traveled to Southampton but for university purposes.
- October 2016, I traveled to London for training and stayed for three days for work. This does not appear on the ‘I have traveled to’ list because for me it’s not a holiday.
- November 2016, as I write this post I am in Milan, Italy enjoying the best latte macchiato ever.
I won’t like but I have enjoyed every single one of these trips. I am grateful for the opportunities and the experiences but I feel for 2017, staycations are what I need more of. With that in mind, here are my Three UK Staycation Ideas.
Three UK Staycation Ideas
- Bristol ~ The city of Bridges, one that I would love to see is Clifton Suspension Bridge, an iconic city landmark. I have been to Bristol once but only went as far as the shopping centre which I loved. One thing I know about Bristol is it caters for all, including gorgeous green spaces for relaxation, museums, galleries etc. You won’t be short of things to do, admire and if you looking for somewhere to stay Intercontinental Hotels has you covered.
- Bath ~ a beautiful and special city that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This city opens beautiful and unique shopping experience but also a relaxing and unwinding atmosphere. It is the only place in the UK you can bathe in naturally hot spa water and original Roman Baths. I have had this city on my list for forever and can not wait to visit soon. If you do decide to visit Bath Cuty, there are many places you could stay including Best Western Limpley Stoke. You can visit Bath Abbey, Pulteney Bridge, visit local eats like Sally Lunns or Pump Room for a spot of afternoon tea.
- Birmingham, a city I have visited many times but never done any proper exploring. I have visited family friends many a time and not once have I left the confides of their home to explore. I have been to Cadbury World and had the best of time, I have also enjoyed a spot shopping.
Like many cities and country side in the UK, they have so much to offer but they are expensive too. Most of us have chosen to travel abroad because it is sometimes cheaper than staying home. Though this is not the case everywhere it is unfortunately the reality for some popular areas. I am setting myself a goal from January 2017 to show how affordable it can be todo a staycation. I love traveling abroad like the next person but let’s also do some local adventures.

What an amazing idea! I’d love to take 12 trips in 12 months. I lived in Chippenham near Castle Combe for a couple of years and it’s such a beautiful part of the UK.
